Tan KI is a Soul Hunter, a person who has the ability to capture lost souls and send them to the afterlife. KI has always had a strong connection to the spirit world, even as a child. When KI was just a baby, their parents were killed in a car accident, and their souls were trapped between the living and the dead. KI's grandfather, a powerful shaman, saw the trapped souls and taught KI how to communicate with them.
